Kriti Chouhan

Associate Engagement Director

My interest lies in unpacking the cognitive barriers and nuances of decision making processes that prevent individuals from acting in their best interest when it comes to health. Beyond the sectoral interest, I am also interested in contributing to generation of evidence based solutions for behaviour change using experimental methods.

My experience at Busara has involved understanding individual behaviour and applying behavioural science to questions related to health and financial inclusion. Some of my major contributions include understanding behavioural barriers across the user journey that affect the motivation and ability of parents to get their daughters the HPV vaccine in Kenya; experimental testing of solutions to drive uptake of the HPV vaccine in Kenya; understanding the primary health care landscape Nigeria to uncover the behavioural barriers that prevent people from accessing PHC services; running a large scale survey to understand what current housing credit needs of low-income households in Orissa, India are, what they care about, what they are motivated by, what their aspirations are, who they are influenced by, and what discourages them from accessing and repaying loans. Beyond the application of behavioural science on various projects across sectors, I have also been involved in capacity building efforts to embed behavioural science in the daily work of both public (National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Nigeria) and private (Foundation for Ecological Security) sector organisations. Currently, I am also involved in developing a social and behaviour change strategy for adoption of sanitation behaviours such as toilet use, proper hand washing and safe disposal of child faecal material in Ethiopia.

Prior to joining Busara, I worked in the financial inclusion vertical of an action-oriented research centre in India, spending most of my time evaluating programs aiming to improve the financial and digital inclusion of women. I hold an MSc in Economics from University College London and a BA (hons) in Economics from University of Delhi.
